I’ll get vulnerable here for a minute ⬇️ Here’s what people don’t know about me… I am very introverted. I get my energy from being alone and re-charging solo. And the older I have gotten (currently 30), the more selective I am with who I share my energy with. My circle is TINY. And I like it that way. If I am messaging you back, you’re on a very short list. I used to feel like I had to “wear a mask” when I lived in New York City. Feeling like I had to fit in and do what everyone else did, work a regular job like everyone else, and live a typical normal life. But I didn’t want to do what everyone else was doing... I didn’t care about going to the fancy restaurant. I didn’t care about going out until 3am. I didn’t care about going to Surf Lodge in the summer. So, I never did those things. I just stayed to myself. For 5+ years. And I used to feel shame for not wanting to drink when everyone else wanted to. And I used to make excuses for not being available because I didn’t want to go out. And I used to feel embarrassed I didn’t have any “crazy weekend stories” on the Monday morning Zoom call at work. And then one day, I said enough is enough… I’m different. And I’m okay with that. Because I’d rather be disliked for who I am, than to be liked for someone I am not. And when I finally was able to “take off the mask” and just be myself, life got so much better. I love being healthy. I love seeing the world. I love learning new things. I love spending time with family. I’m Ned. I’m me. I’m not for everyone. And that’s perfectly fine with me.
