@corycalendinemd: Hip Osteoarthritis Progression in X-ray Imaging . Hip radiographs serve as critical diagnostic tools that reveal structural changes occurring within the joint over time, providing objective evidence of disease severity/progression. When evaluating #hiposteoarthritis: 🔹Joint Space Narrowing: one of the most significant indicators, reflecting the gradual loss of protective cartilage between the femoral head - acetabulum. This narrowing can be measured at the narrowest point using graduated instruments. Progressive joint space loss correlates directly with cartilage degeneration + often predicts future functional limitations. 🔹Osteophyte (Bone spurs): bone spurs develop along joint margins as the body attempts to stabilize the deteriorating joint. Radiologists grade osteophytes at multiple locations including the superior/inferior aspects of both the femoral head and acetabulum. The presence and size of osteophytes help determine disease stage and progression velocity. 🔹Subchondral Sclerosis: increased density of bone beneath the cartilage surface, appears as bright white areas on radiographs - indicating altered mechanical stress distribution within the joint, an adaptive response to cartilage loss that provides valuable information about disease activity. 🔹Kellgren and Lawrence grading system remains widely utilized, classifying hip osteoarthritis on a scale from 0-4 based on the combined presence of osteophytes, joint space narrowing, sclerosis, and bone deformity. Grade 0 indicates no osteoarthritis, while grade 4 represents severe disease. The OARSI atlas offers a more detailed semi-quantitative approach, allowing precise assessment of individual radiographic features. Research indicates that certain radiographic parameters predict accelerated osteoarthritis progression: Acetabular under-coverage, cam-type morphology, and baseline joint space measurements help identify patients at elevated risk for rapid deterioration. #hiparthritis #radiology . 👇 SHARE your #hipxray tips & tricks

My X-ray shows accute to severe arthritis left hip. Pain is absolutely horrible all the time. Not sure what to do. No insurance. Can’t afford it. Doesn’t cover much if I could. What a mess

🆘 WE ARE NOT OK 🆘 :
Question: when a hip is end stage with sclerosis, spurs and narrowing, does recovering from an anterior hip replacement become more difficult due to the surgeon having to "fix" these issues? Is the recovery more painful?

Mine was terrible. Doctors didn’t know how I lasted so long before getting my new hip in June.

then it stopped hurting and I was still limping a little bit and I noticed my one leg was about 3 inches shorter than the other one I go in to get an x-ray and they tell me the ball of my hip is completely gone so I'm assuming the femoral head had lost the blood supply and they didn't catch it I don't know

I had impingement and labrum repair a year ago and still not 100% unfortunately. Got another MRI that still shows impingement but doc said MRIs are not fully accurate, just shadows, up PT and stretch more 😒 Could it still show impingement if the impingement was “corrected” a year ago?? I feel like he’s doesn’t want to admit surgery wasn’t successful or it wasn’t fully taken care of 😣

Could You say more about Knee Joint Distraction (KJD). I am a patient after acute lymphoblastic leukemia, chemotherapy, steroid therapy that causes cartilage delamination of the knee and bone necrosis. Is KJD a chance to avoid knee replacement?

Stopped by to say hi to the coolest doc on TikTok! I’ve had avascular necrosis or the hip for two years now. 32yrs old. Trying to suck it up until I’m old enough for a hip replacement.
