I’ve made 25 k status for the past 5 years, however with the new way to earn points I don’t think I’ll make it in the future. I will enjoy the status for one more year.😳

I think like you said airlines are just becoming way too greedy. Some airports in Canada like Fort Mcmurray only has Air Canada and WestJet operations. We get stuck with those two and I bet they decide their own prices together and gouge us. At this point tho any sort of discount in my opinion is worth it, but for some travellers we don't even have much options to begin with 🥲

Airline status is just a way to get employees flying on the company dime to stay loyal and buy more expensive fares to earn status.

I have 75k with aeroplan. I got it this year so it'll renew for next as well, so thats a plus. with their changes, I dont think ill get even to 50k, which is the best level for start alliance gold

I’ve got SE100K and I’ll be losing it in 2027. I fly Economy Class and enjoy the upgrades. As you correctly pointed out, a premium credit card does almost everything without chasing the miles for status. The only real benefit of status is SE100K when things go wrong, the airline looks after you first regardless of credit card.

I have Air Canada 50k status and the premium credit card and buy Flex fares for work travel. I’ve flown 52 flights this year. I haven’t checked a single bag. Where you really see benefit is things like the worldwide companion pass and buying latitude fares and getting instant upgrades using e-upgrades. The Star Alliance lounge access outside Canada and early boarding on partner flights are also really nice to have for travel in the US.

Air Canada send me offer to buy aeroplan points, if I buy more points do they have a timeline to use it by, also will I earn additional perks if I buy more points vs spending off my credit card 💳
