Dealers wont pay diag but they want techs who can left the business best thing I ever did 30 year master tech could diag better than most but the pay sucked the smarter you get the less money you make

"techs" are scared to diagnostic because they cant fix it and dont know where to start and 2 it pays decent if u know what ur doing and 3 run straight time just punch in and out if u spent 9 hours and warranty rep summits most of the time u will get 80% of your time

1.5 fo diag is great I have no problem finding out what’s wrong with a vehicle in that amount of time and if it’s electrical issue it’s usually 3 hours unless obvious.

You have to work the system not let the system work you. You can be the smartest guy in the shop but dont let them know it.

My dealership has 3 primary diag techs that are a high hourly rate and they get a % on customer pay parts and labor and extended warranty parts and labor. It seems to work well for our shop especially being busy and having 200+ cars being serviced.

whoa whoa let's clarify. most aren't scared of it because reality is if youre actually are qualified you can understand how electrical works. techs aren't scared they've gotten smart enough to realize it pays better to play stupid and avoid it. most aren't scared. the reality is it should scare the managers.
