for the people hating on the greeks, they did change the writting system quite a bit by adding vowels, it made it so you can phonetically read any words if you just know what sound the letters make without prior knowlage of the word, just the letters, thats a pretty big change and worthy of distinction

Alfabet as the name suggests it is a greek invention that uses symbols for vowels and consonants. there has been many older writing systems, the first used symbol for words (like chinese) the later, symbols for syllables. Neither of them is an alfabet. Even greeks themselves had older syllable writing systems (like linear b). Phoenician writings are a syllable system, thus not an alfabet.
