Serious question. I have been tossing this up for a couple years. My layers go through a 25 pound bag of feed a week and free range. $15 a bag. A whole chicken is $10 at Walmart. Is it worth it? Like how much do they really eat?

Why so much feed? Can they just live off bugs etc? Or for meat, that wouldn’t be enough?

We got 4 from tractor supply just for the experience and we loved it! But why are the meat chickens so sweet and well behaved?

when we processed my aunts meat chickens it took less the two hours but that's probably because there was 6 of us doing it.

technically you don't HAVE to have all the extra equipment to process them. it just makes things easier in the long run lol

Well, that’s good for you. I just have chickens for their eggs. I’m allergic to chicken. So I can’t eat them.

We just processed 25 yesterday! Pending on how you off them, all you need is a knife to process. We vacuum seal the meat but you can use wrap & freezer paper or freezer bags.

So going to a feed mill instead of store saves tons of money, processing can be super cheap no extra equipment needed. When we process 94% of them are just skinned not plucked faster and works great for the meals you don’t want skin on for.
