It’s not technically abandoned. There are about 12 people who live there and Walpack has a mayor.

This whole area is rural to begin with and 2ndly a lot of it is part of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreational Park. It’s not abandoned there’s the Walpack Inn and people still live in and around there.

It's not abandoned, it's preserved. it's in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation area and if you follow that road, you used to be able to go over a bridge that went into the Tillman Ravine area, which is part of Stokes State Forest. Buttermilk falls is across that bridge to the right by the old cemetery, but you have to go down Tillman Road to get there now (and it would be left. dont go down mountain road without 4x4)
