The creator said some bs about "not your typical yuri" but he must've just been working on assumptions about the genre because what he created WAS another "typical yuri" by having two girls with an ambiguous relationship part ways by the end

I don’t even hate the idea of the ending but this anime needed to be longer than 12 episodes in order to make it work. I am very much for Lara breaking out of the very restrictive definition of “true love” her family forced on her at 15 (!!!) years old. However, they didn’t balance this message with the budding love between her and Mari. It isn’t bait bc the show quite literally shows you multiple ways in which Lara loves Mari (the dagger literally killing her being a big example). The problem was that time skip. We don’t see anything from that time, not when she makes the decision to leave, not her talking to Mari about it, nothing. The ambiguity and almost melancholy feeling at the end was surprising as well. It feels like they set up for a continuation of the story (like through a movie).

Love me an independent girlie, but the goodbye was like two strangers. At the very end, Lara said “I don't care about true love,” to Lisa. And she told Luca “I need to find a place where a new light is waiting for me.” Which is WILD because of everything she said to Mari, like, six months before that. The show kept strongly inferring that Mari is her True Love and her light, and then we have everything Lara said in the heat of the moment which, like, is pretty explicitly a confession. But six months later, and those are basically Lara’s final words on the matter, undoing what she said. And her final actions are to leave. Mari got done dirty.

it just felt like they chickened out at the last minute, it felt so disappointing :( on paper, the ending is okay, but the execution was so terrible. it felt like a disservice to the rest of the anime, which was BEAUTIFUL and i really was excited to see where they were headed. what’s the point of grace’s words “live for love, not for the laws”? why is it always yuri that this happens to? and also i think lara could’ve done other things like go to school, get more friends instead of leaving solely because she is 15-16, why is she going away by herself?

As a veteran Yuri watcher since Kannazuki no Miko. I see it coming. 😂 I've been baited for so long that I won't watch the yuri anime unless it has an ending. Gundam Witch from Mercury was the only yuri I was pleased about despite being skeptical at first ✌️😎

I’m just tired of yuri media always having to be ambiguous subtext and not explicitly shown or stated. The show was sold to us as a yuri romance and built up on that only to use a cop out independence arc when Lara could’ve explored that’s while still being in a relationship with Mari. It’s just feels like the payoff wasn’t worth it and I would say it’s yuri bait cuz why did we get more romantic exploration with Luca and Lara then with the girl she actually loves

the ending is just so abrupt when it comes; like even between friends, let's say they are just friends okay, that goodbye is still really cold! my best friend left to see the world while I stayed behind, and we knew perhaps it'll be years before we met again of she ever came back at all, so it's the mix of being happy cause seeing the world is a dream, and being sad cause you're gonna miss them so much. Same for my friend, happy to love her dream and sad because of everything she left behind. and you can bet we cried and hugged and wished each other well and like I'm not saying they have to be the same but, it just feel so empty compared to what their relationship, friendly or not, has been up until this point.

I really liked where the ending was headed, Lara had spenr her entire life and entire time on ground pursuing this ideal and frankly toxic idea of true love. For her arc to be complete she really needed to reject the entire structure but COME ON GIVE US A KISS, had they had a goodbye kiss even if it would still feel a bit rushed at least the romance would be ROMANTICALLY textual (their love is textual but not the explicit romance of it) and it would have given them that hint of their relationship changing into a proper relationship.
