I don’t know enough about British celebrities to have known this, but American celebrities give a ton of money to charity as well. I’d never have viewed that as a comparison to be made anyhow. I do think there’s a lot of constant comparisons made with the US for no reason.

as an american living in the uk, i hate how everything ends up being taken like an attack or competition any time differences are mentioned because so many differences are just interesting. but i also understand how it does because i find myself feeling really sensitive and defensive of both the us and the uk in various contexts

and to add on, when people say “we don’t think about you at all” or “we don’t care about you” it turns into another competition, because what people actually mean is, we don’t care/think about you LIKE THAT. we don’t think of things like a competition or get upset when customs are different (like how people have a fit when we switch cutlery to cut our food or something). we DO care about your country, we know general politics and news cycles, we like the media and everything, we respect the culture and food (yes the food!!) But we’re not nasty about it! (and if someone is being nasty it’s because they say it in retaliation. lots of people are dicks to us so lots of us are gonna be dicks back)

I rather have the Uk vs US banter cause it make sense historically than Canada trying to be relevant and try to have a US vs Canada. Like we really don’t care about Canada but they always want to bring us up even when we don’t care.

Ultimately our cultural differences are so minor that the us vs uk culture wars feel trite. We have so much in common it’s like arguing whether you prefer orange juice with or without pulp.

i think it's like what the show is asking for, tbh. my partner and I were talking about the different level of celebrity. like could the us have a traitors with a celeb like Stephen Fry? who would that even be??

And it's a true bummer because there are very interesting conversations to be had about American versions of UK shows and vice-versa, but comment sections just devolve into meaningless attacks. I'd love to talk about things like how our senses of humor are much more similar than people like to believe or why US versions of shows like Taskmaster failed, why UK versions of American shows like Impractical Jokers failed, and why US versions of shows like Shameless of Ghosts succeeded and the differenced between them all and what they say about our countries. It's not easy to respectfully talk about topics like that online because you'll get stuffy Brits calling Americans uncultured and arrogant Americans claiming they don't think about Brits to begin with (then why are you commenting?) and it's just exhausting.

I miss being a teenager, making fun of British players in online video games. Banter went triple platinum. 😂

everything is like that now, way more than it used to be like 10-15 years ago. everything is so divided because that's what provokes people to engage with social media, it's a big distraction, and it is SO worryingly easy to get sucked in even when you're aware of it

It’s such a slippery slope especially being online. I’ve found myself getting riled up at certain things and I just have to remember that literally doesn’t matter who is better than who. We’re two different countries who share the same language (with differences) but two different cultures. There’s great and bad things about both places but we gotta stop constantly pitting us against each other

My dear, the bad reaction comes from the 4.5 million UK videos totally bashing the US over minutiae. It would be ok if it’s politics but often insignificant stuff that is often untrue (we do have real bread and our houses aren’t cardboard).

Also the U.S. does the most charity and volunteering per capita than any other country. Look it up.

This is all onesided 😂, we literally don’t care about UK vs US. We are on your mind way too much🤦🏻♂️. Honestly be proud to be from the UK but there’s no competition, we got enough things going on for us to care about elevators vs lifts. Literally no one in America even cares🤷🏻♂️

I'm American but I'm very fond of the UK! to give some context from a US perspective, our reactions are definitely a bit heightened these days because we're already dealing with a lot of really difficult conditions here, and it absolutely sucks to see folks comment on our culture in a comparative way. it truly reads as kicking us while we're down. 😅 I'm not saying it's right but that's just sort of where we're at

The celebrities on US traitors aren’t really “celebrities” in that sense. Like- they don’t have that kind of money
