Intent doesn’t excuse Impact. Aang didn’t intend to neglect Kya and Bumi, but because of his favoritism/focus on Tenzin, Bumi and Kya were/felt neglected. They KNEW he loved them but didn’t FEEL he loved them. Crazy, because Kya lived more like nomad by traveling the world and was most spiritual (innately balanced) out of all his kids. Bumi and Kya are actually more spiritual than Tenzin. Tenzin had the Airbending but Kya and Bumi had the other aspects of the air nomads.

I am not defending aang for being a bad father and absent father for kya and bumi but air nomads doesn’t have family bonds so he is kinda never had father or mother figure he tried to be best lowkey (and i think bc of Aang absence bumi saw zuko as role model so he became a general for fire nation and wears fire nation clothes

Peoples inability to let the characters be flawed is why they’ll never be able to appreciate the next. Aang wasn’t perfect, him being a neglectful father because he prioritized his people to an extent and also didn’t grow up with the nuclear family makes complete since. Same with Toph, it makes complete sense that she gave her children no structure which caused the rift between all of them. It doesn’t mean they’re bad people, yall js can’t handle characters being multifaceted.

Given Aang's character I'm not surprised that he turned out to be a not so great father, yeah sure he was a good kid but throughout his life we've seen Aang make bad decisions after bad decisions. First he decided to skip his duties as avatar and ran away leading to a war that lasted for a hundred years even killing all the air nomads and destroying his whole culture. Sure he was young but had he stayed maybe he could've saved everyone and he wouldn't have a whole story of blindly trusting Tagah despite not knowing anything about him besides the fact that he's an air nomad. The destruction of Aang's people is solely based on his inaction and aversion to responsibility so even though it was harsh the people who disliked the avatar for leaving them in a horrible war for years were completely valid. But obviously I'm not saying that Aang wasn't also valid for being scared because he was young and just wanted to be a child

tenzin is much better of a father rather than aang. the scene with ikki when she ran away proves it. he cared about all his children and those kids who wasn't his kids too, I think even if Rohan was born a nonbender he would still treat him the same.
