My cats get a "bye I love you, don't burn the house down" as I walk out the door. Sometimes a scratch on the head too. I'm not cuddling or kissing on them right before I leave, that's blatant cruel and I never understood why people do it

I say bye if our cats are nearby when we leave and say "hello gentlemen" if they're near the door when we get home and give them a little head pat. One of them often runs to the door to greet us whenever one or both of us gets home, so it's still kind of selfish for sure. Idk exactly how stressed he is when we're gone, but its not 0 :/

when I leave for work early in the morning my dog gets "love you be a good girl" and she looks at me like "ok when are you going to leave and stop making so much noise so I can go back to sleep?"

I do let my toddler give the cat a forehead kiss before we go, but the cat doesn't give a single shit when we leave or when we get home as long as he has food and water he'd be just as happy not seeing us ever😂 we have monitors but I dont talk through them or anything he plays with his toys catches the occasional mouse and takes naps in places we usually move him from like straight in front of the TV or on the computer keyboard

my dogs separation anxiety is so bad (im his 4th owner he came like this) he can not ever be left home alone. He breaks out of creates or hurts himself trying, broken windows, ripped off door frames. at a certain point it was just best for all involved to treat him like a human toddler, either we're home with him or he gets a babysitter. Is that inconvenient as hell sometime? absolutely. Is it worth it cause hes a wonderful dog outside of that issue? also yes. and yes we tried meds, no it didnt help it actually made things 100% worse

What about saying hi or bye the way you do to a human? Just a neutral, "I'm off to work", or "I'm home (insert pet name here)". That's what I do with mine. Are those safe?
