On December 12, 1989, the body of a woman was discovered off Old Temple Bar Road in Mohave County, Arizona. She had been stabbed multiple times and left nude in the desert, because her identity was unknown she was given the name “Jane Doe” and her DNA was entered into CODIS. Two days later, on December 14, 1989, her two young daughters—14-month-old Elizabeth and 2-month-old Jasmin—were abandoned in a park restroom in Oxnard, California. A passerby heard crying, and found the infants lying on the wet floor with no adults present. The sisters were placed in foster care, eventually adopted together, and grew up in Ventura County. For decades, the victim’s identity and the fate of her daughters were a mystery. Breakthroughs came in February 2022, investigators retrieved fingerprints from the victim’s file and submitted them to NamUs and the FBI. They matched “Maria Ortiz,” an alias linked to a June 15, 1989 arrest in Bakersfield, California. Further investigation revealed Ortiz was really Marina Ramos, who had vanished with her daughters that same year. With DNA provided by Ramos’s relatives, that is when detectives were notified she had two daughters, this ignited an investigation into their whereabouts. On August 27, 2025, forensic genetic genealogy led investigators to one of the sisters, and DNA testing confirmed both women’s identities as Elizabeth and Jasmin Ramos, adopted names Melissa and Tina, respectively. Authorities continue to seek information about Ramos’s killers, urging anyone with knowledge to come forward. #missing #truecrime
