The 133rd Manya Klo (Krobo) Ngmayem Festival continues today, Sunday, 25 October 2026, with the Divisional Walk, bringing together divisional leaders, the youth and residents in a vibrant celebration of unity, cultural pride and community spirit. The procession begins at Kpong Lorry Station and proceeds along the main high street to the Konor’s Palace in Odumase-Krobo. Accompanied by music, participants march and dance in colourful shirts representing their respective divisions of Manya Klo (Krobo). Beyond the procession itself, the walk strengthens bonds across the divisions, promotes peace and brings the community together to celebrate its rich cultural heritage ahead of the major traditional ceremonies. THEME FOR NGMAYEM 2026 “Strengthening Our Bonds: Advancing Growth Through Heritage and Unity.” ABOUT NGMAYEM Ngmayem is a harvest festival deeply rooted in Dangme culture and tradition. The name is commonly understood as “Eating Millet” in Dangme. * Dangme: Ngma — English: Millet * Dangme: Yemi — English: Eating or consuming The Manya Klo (Krobo) Ngmayem Festival is celebrated annually around Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern Region of Ghana. It is an important cultural occasion for thanksgiving, renewal and unity. The festival, established in 1944 under the leadership of the Paramount Chief, Nɛnɛ Azu Mate Kole, replaced an earlier celebration known as Hiɛyemi (Yereyeli), meaning “Eating of Yam.” The change placed renewed emphasis on millet, a historically important staple in the lives of the Krobo people. The official numbering of the festival’s editions follows the earlier tradition’s origins in 1893, accounting for the designation of the 2026 celebration as the 133rd Ngmayem Festival. Ngmayem is a time for the people to give thanks to the Creator, honour their ancestral heritage and celebrate the harvest, food security, protection and blessings of life. The celebrations feature traditional rites, cultural performances, communal activities and the symbolic preparation and sharing of millet porridge. More than a harvest festival, Ngmayem is a powerful expression of Dangme identity, history and community solidarity. It brings generations together to preserve their heritage, honour their traditions and strengthen the bonds that unite the people. Long live Manya Klo! Long live Dangme culture and heritage!
