Steak Queso Rice Bowls 🥩🧀 Juicy, seasoned steak bites served over fluffy Mexican-style rice and smothered in creamy, homemade queso cheese sauce. These bowls are packed with Tex-Mex flavor and are perfect for an easy weeknight dinner! Prep time 15 minutes Cook time 25 minutes Servings 4 bowls Ingredients For the steak * 1½ lbs sirloin steak, cut into bite-sized cubes * 1 tablespoon olive oil * 1 tablespoon butter * 1 teaspoon garlic powder * 1 teaspoon smoked paprika * 1 teaspoon chili powder * ½ teaspoon cumin * ½ teaspoon onion powder * ½ teaspoon salt * ¼ teaspoon black pepper * 2 cloves garlic, minced * 1 tablespoon lime juice For the Mexican-style rice * 1 cup long-grain white rice * 1 tablespoon butter or olive oil * 2 cups chicken broth * ¼ cup tomato sauce * ½ teaspoon garlic powder * ½ teaspoon cumin * ¼ teaspoon salt For the creamy queso sauce * 2 tablespoons butter * 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour * 1 cup whole milk * 8 oz white American cheese, chopped or torn into pieces * ½ cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese * 1 small can (4 oz) diced green chiles, drained * ¼ teaspoon garlic powder * Pinch of cumin * Salt to taste Optional toppings * Sour cream * Diced tomatoes or pico de gallo * Sliced jalapeños * Chopped cilantro * Sliced avocado * Crushed tortilla chips * Lime wedges Instructions Step 1: Make the rice * Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs mostly clear. * Heat 1 tablespoon butter or olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. * Add the rice and toast for 2–3 minutes, stirring frequently. * Stir in the tomato sauce, chicken broth, garlic powder, cumin, and salt. * Bring to a boil, then cover and reduce the heat to low. * Cook for 15–18 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed. * Remove from the heat and let stand, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork. Step 2: Season and cook the steak * Pat the steak cubes dry with paper towels. * Toss with olive oil, garlic powder, smoked paprika, chili powder, cumin, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. * Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat until hot. * Add the steak in a single layer, working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. * Sear for about 2–4 minutes per side, depending on the size of the cubes and your preferred doneness. * Add the butter and minced garlic during the final minute, tossing to coat the steak. * Remove from the heat and finish with lime juice. Check that the steak reaches a safe internal temperature; whole beef steaks should reach 145°F with a 3-minute rest. Step 3: Make the queso sauce * Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat. * Whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute. * Slowly whisk in the milk until smooth. * Cook for 2–3 minutes, stirring constantly, until slightly thickened. * Reduce the heat to low. Add the white American cheese a handful at a time, stirring until melted. * Stir in the Monterey Jack cheese, diced green chiles, garlic powder, and cumin. * Continue stirring until smooth and creamy. Add a splash of milk if the sauce is too thick, and season with salt to taste. Tip: Keep the queso on low heat and avoid boiling it after adding the cheese to help prevent a grainy texture. Step 4: Assemble the bowls * Divide the Mexican rice among four serving bowls. * Top each bowl with a generous portion of steak bites. * Pour warm queso sauce over the steak and rice. * Add your favorite toppings, such as pico de gallo, sour cream, jalapeños, cilantro, or crushed tortilla chips. * Finish with a squeeze of fresh lime juice. Tips for the best steak queso bowls * For restaurant-style rice: Substitute part of the chicken broth with additional tomato sauce for a richer tomato flavor. * For meal prep: Store the steak, rice, and queso separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days. Reheat the queso gently with a splash of milk. Serving idea: Pair these bowls with warm tortillas, tortilla chips, or a side of black beans for a filling Tex-Mex meal. #recipesoftiktok #foodtiktok #recipes #DinnerIdeas #dinner
