In Obsession, BEAR IS A TERRIBLE MAN. When given the opportunity to give Nikki her "autonomy" back, he decided to MODIFY THE WISH! He knows that she's unhappy and AWARE/UNAWARE when he requests MODIFICATION of the wish.

I like the twist that it isn’t a monkey paw situation - the billion dollars wish showed that. It was entirely down to the wish Bear made and how he used it (and indeed, refused to possibly undo it).

I also think it marked a new generation of horror. Most older horror movies are really good but it’s hard for gen z to relate to it because the themes are outdated (home invasion: we don’t own homes lol)

I wonder if on the last scene when bears about to kms but doesn’t if he didn’t kms because he was in love with Nikki and not the entity controlling Nikki. We know that the entity controlling Nikki has all of Nikki’s memories so it’s safe to assume the entity controlling bear has bears memories. If the entity controlling bear was in love with the entity controlling Nikki then he would have continued to try to throw up the pills so he could spend more time with the entity controlling Nikki. But if he was in love with Nikki then what he did makes more sense, he goes to nikki to get one last look before he dies saving Nikki from the curse he placed on her, if he hadn’t died then, then Nikki would be in pain which he wouldn’t want because he was in love with her and not the entity controlling nikkiz

I feel like the success of obsession is that it’s really solid overall. I don’t think i was particularly surprised by how the story unfolded but all the small moments are great. as a woman watching this i didn’t feel pity for bear when he’s having to struggle with the consequences of his wish; he literally wished for THIS. he was obsessed with nikki and this is what it means now to be on the receiving end of unhealthy empty obsession.

As a SA victim myself I had to leave to throw up at the end. Her screams sounded so much like mine back then. This movie does an astounding job of showing what it feels like.

For me, Bears character was a lot like Bo Burnhams in Promising Young Woman. He’s the good guy we can trust around our drinks, and they’re the good guys (to themselves) because they’d never do something evil. But… they witness it and allow it to continue.

My favorite part about Obsession for sure was how realistic all the characters felt. More so than I had ever seen in a movie before, I just felt like this movie completely captured what sort of actions these people would take in these situations and that’s where the real horror was for me, in how accurate and close to home it all felt. Love these videos, keep it up dude 👍
